| Open BSD | UNIX like operating system that is HIGHLY SECURE. We switched from Linux to OpenBSD for our firewall implementation. It's less cryptic than Linux and proactively VERY security oriented. Throughput DOUBLED when we removed Microsoft Proxy Server as firewall / gateway. OpenBSD and Linux are great ways to recycle obsolete hardware. We added Sendmail to take the mail sending load off the local mail clients and Samba to allow us to see the OpenBSD drives from Windoze, enabling easy internal access to the FTP server. Three years without a remote hole in the default install! Microsoft couldn't even claim three weeks! |
